Water Softening System by Fluidized Bed Pellet Reactor

The Crystalactor® Pellet Reactor - A device which softens water, removes phosphates and heavy metals from water and wastewater. It is a fluidized bed reactor in which appropriate chemicals and water are mixed intensely near the inlet zone. With the availability of fluidized sand grains as seed material, crystallization occurs ata very rapid rate (5 to 10 Secs.). The volume of reactor is very small since shorter detention times are required for crystallization. The coated sand grain pellets are heavier than normal chemical precipitates and hence a high surface loading rate of the order of 100 M3/M2 per hour is normally used. The typical size provided is 6M-10M in heights and 2M-4M in diameter.

The pellet reactor is an excellent example of clean technology. This water treatment process has no residues, but produces pure crystal pellets, which can be re-used in various industrial applications

Advantages
The Product water is nearer to equilibrium and, therefore, no after-precipitation of calcium carbonate occurs. 
The Product water is of pH about 8.2 and needs no further pH correction. 
The grains discharge from Crystalactor are free flowing and are easily dewatered.
The residual moisture content of grains is only 3% to 5%.
 
The grains are a source of high calcium and are used as poultry feed in many countries.
In the absence of oxygen, ferrous iron can be removed as ferrous carbonate. 
No pretreatment of raw water required.
Very compact unit and require less area, only about 5% of the area of a
precipitation reactor.
The pellets remove most of the manganese present in the water and also part
of iron and phosphates present in it.
Simple and reliable in operation.

Applications
Vast Potential and uses in reduction and recovery of heavy metals from wastewaters.
Zinc, Cadmium, Nickel, Mercury, Manganese, Copper, Lead, Chromium, Cobalt
and Tellurium have been very successfully recovered.
Industrial applications for Spent Plating Baths, drag out baths, passivating
baths, pickle baths, rinsing waters etc.
Phosphate removal for teritiary waste water applications.
